Stood at the self checkout for 8 minutes waiting for a price check

I was at the Safeway on 5th Street last night with just one bag of cat food. The machine froze on 'waiting for associate' and three employees walked right past me. Is it too much to ask for a working self checkout lane?

My buddy Dave waited so long for a price check at Walmart he just left his milk there and walked out.
