That old mechanic who told me to stop using premium gas in my Corolla was dead wrong
My neighbor Mike, who's been fixing cars for 30 years, told me premium gas would clean out my engine and give me better mileage. I ran three tanks of the expensive stuff through my 2015 Corolla last month and my gas mileage actually dropped by 4 MPG with zero difference in how it ran. Has anyone else been given car advice that turned out to be total bunk?

That premium gas myth is everywhere. Car manuals literally say "regular unleaded" for a reason, people just ignore it. Your MPG drop makes total sense because premium fuel burns slower, and Corollas aren't tuned for that. Most mechanics I know just laugh at customers who waste money on it. Stick with regular and save yourself the cash.

My buddy used to run premium in his lawnmower thinking it made it cut better, took me a whole season to convince him otherwise. You'd think people would trust the engineers who designed the thing, right?
