The self-checkout vs. the human cashier debate is missing the point

Everyone says self-checkout is faster, but I timed it at my local Kroger last week. The human line with 4 people took 3 minutes, 45 seconds. The self-checkout line with 2 people took over 7 minutes because one person had a produce code issue and another needed a manager for beer. The human cashier just knows the codes and can handle problems without a line freeze. I'll pick the person every time if I'm not buying just one thing. What's the longest you've been stuck behind a self-checkout meltdown?

Ugh, the worst is when the machine just yells "unexpected item" for no reason...

Saw a thing online where a dude said the sensors are so sensitive they can pick up static electricity from your clothes. @oscar_rodriguez70 that "unexpected item" shout always feels personal, like the machine just has it out for you that day.

Right? It's like the machine gets confused by its own bagging area. Sometimes a crumb or a bit of plastic from a price tag will set it off. Makes you just want to leave your stuff and walk out. What's the most annoying item you've had trigger it?
