Unpopular opinion: the cashier who small talks vs the one who stays silent...

I had this cashier at the Piggly Wiggly in Mobile last Tuesday who didn't say one word to me the whole time, just scanned and bagged. Then the next week I got a lady who asked me about my weekend plans and it took twice as long. Which type do you prefer when you're in a hurry?

@black.mark nailed it. I'm the guy who accidentally makes eye contact and then feels obligated to say something dumb like "yep, sure is raining" while they're already halfway through my total.

Man, that's the thing about Southern grocery stores right? You never know which one you're gonna get. I'm the type that if I'm just grabbing milk and eggs, I want the silent scanner guy all day. But if it's a Saturday morning and I'm getting stuff for a cookout, I actually don't mind the chatty one as long as she keeps moving her hands. The real issue is when they stop scanning to tell you a whole story about their grandkids, that's when I start looking at my watch.
