Vent: I counted barcode scanners while waiting and found something odd
Standing in line at the Kroger on Main Street last Tuesday, I started counting how many checkout lanes were actually open. Out of 14 lanes, only 3 had cashiers, and one of those had a self-checkout malfunction sign taped to it. That got me wondering if stores are quietly shrinking staff on purpose or if it's just a Tuesday thing. Anyone else ever do weird math like that while stuck in line, or is it just me?
Oh man, I do this all the time and it drives my husband nuts. Last month at our Walmart they had 12 lanes and literally 2 open, plus the self checkout area where 4 out of 8 machines were broken. I started timing it too, like how long each person took, and the average was almost 6 minutes per cart. That adds up fast when you've got a full cart and only two real cashiers moving people through. It really does feel like they're testing how long we'll put up with it before we just give up and use the scan and go app. The weird part is the store is always packed, so it's not like they're hurting for business.
