Why does nobody talk about the self-checkout line becoming the slowest one?

I was convinced the self-checkout was faster until last Tuesday at the Kroger on Maple, when I watched a woman spend 6 minutes trying to scan a single bag of oranges because the scale kept saying 'unexpected item in bagging area', and now I just get in the regular line with a cashier.

My local Target self-checkout moves way faster than the cashier lines, @averywright.
