A regular at the diner on Maple Street told me my scrambled eggs reminded him of his grandmother's, which she made with a pinch of nutmeg.

Has anyone else had a customer mention a specific, unexpected ingredient that ended up being a game-changer for a simple dish?

Honestly, that nutmeg trick sounds wild but I believe it. Had a guy tell me my basic tomato soup was missing a tiny bit of brown sugar once. Tbh I thought he was nuts, but I tried it at home. It totally cuts the acid and makes the whole thing taste richer without being sweet. Now I add just a pinch to the pot without telling anyone. Ngl, it’s the secret to my five star review on that soup.

Seriously @laura_green82, it's just soup, not a state secret.

Wait, why is the nutmeg trick any different from the brown sugar thing? If you're keeping a secret ingredient to yourself, aren't you basically saying your recipe is a state secret too?
