Just realized the average line cook burns through 3 pairs of shoes a year

I was changing my socks after a double shift last Tuesday and noticed the soles on my current pair are completely smooth. Did some quick math while icing my feet and figured I'm on my 4th pair this year. That's around $400 just on shoes. Found a thread on a kitchen forum saying most cooks replace theirs every 4 months too. Anyone else tracking how fast you go through work shoes?

Are you buying cheap shoes or spending more on ones that are supposed to last longer?

That's totally me. I used to grab whatever was on sale at the shoe store and they would fall apart in a few months. Then I spent a little more on a pair of good sneakers and they have lasted me almost two years now. My feet don't hurt after walking around all day either. It's one of those things where paying a bit more upfront saves you money in the long run. I'm never going back to cheap shoes again.
