Question about a broken immersion blender during a busy Saturday service.
Had a full house and needed to puree a soup for a 12-top. My trusty old immersion blender just quit, motor seized right up. Had to improvise with a food mill and a whisk, which set us back about 20 minutes. What's your go-to backup plan when a key piece of small equipment fails in the middle of a rush?

Oh man, that's the worst feeling! Had a stick blender die on me right when I needed to blend a big batch of sauce for a catering job. Total panic. My backup is always keeping a cheapo regular blender stashed in the dry storage. It's loud and messy to transfer hot stuff, but it gets the job done in a pinch. That food mill hustle sounds brutal during a rush.

A dead stick blender mid-rush is pure kitchen nightmare fuel. Your backup blender plan is smart, even with the mess. That transfer step with hot liquid is no joke though. I'd probably burn myself at least twice. The food mill option is just punishing, like some kind of chef's penance. Solidarity on the small appliance betrayal.

Keeping a cheap countertop blender as a backup is a lifesaver. I wrap a kitchen towel over the lid when blending hot soup to stop the splatter. That transfer is tricky, so I use a big measuring cup with a pour spout to move it from pot to blender.
