Now I lead with a simple 'safe' or 'needs work' summary at the top, with the technical stuff below for other pros. It's made a huge difference in how clients see the value. Do you think we should dumb things down or stick to the technical details?

Flat out disagree, dumbing it down loses the pros who actually need the details.
