A homeowner in Reno talked me out of the wire brush, and I'm glad she did

Last month I was cleaning a flue for a lady who kept asking why I wasn't using my steel brush on her clay tiles. She said her last sweep scratched up the glaze so bad it started catching soot and smelling like smoke indoors. I told her I always switch to a poly brush for tile, but she didn't believe me until I showed her the difference on a scrap piece. Her point about being gentle on the surface hit different because I've seen too many guys treat every chimney like it's brick. Has anyone else swapped methods after a customer pushed back on the standard approach?
