Can we talk about the vent cap advice that actually made my jobs take longer
Had an old sweep ride along with me back in March on a two-story colonial over in Rochester, and he watched me pop the vent cap off before brushing like I always do. He asked why I bother and I said habit, and he goes "you're just making the draft fight you on the way back down." I thought he was full of it, but I tried it his way the next three days and left the cap on until the brush had already been through twice, and honestly my finish sweep was cleaner and I was out of there about 15 minutes faster each time. Thing is, I'm not totally sold it works on every house, because on one place with a short stack the cap stayed warm and I had to go back up anyway. So now I'm stuck wondering if I should change my whole routine or just use it on taller runs. What's the actual rule here, height of the stack or type of cap?
