Cleaned my 500th chimney this morning and it hit me
That's a lot of soot and a lot of trust from folks. I remember my first one took me almost four hours, now I can do a standard job in under 90 minutes. Anyone else have a number that made you stop and think about the job?

You said it's about trust, but honestly it's just a dirty job people don't want to do themselves. I've seen guys cut corners to hit those 90 minute times, skipping the full brush or missing the damper check. Hitting a number just means you're fast, not that you're good. Would you want the guy focused on his 500th chimney or the one focused on your one chimney?

Yeah, the "cutting corners to hit times" thing is exactly why I don't rush. Like luna_craig58 said, it's about doing it right, not just doing it fast. You want someone who sees your house, not just a number to add to their list.

That's exactly what I was getting at. When @gavink95 talks about cutting corners to be fast, it shows the number itself is just a count. It doesn't say if you did it right. My worry is a guy on his 500th job might just see another brick tube, not a family's home he's supposed to keep safe. Speed comes from knowing what you're doing, not from rushing past the important checks. So maybe the real number to track is how many you've done right, not just how many you've done.
