Had to choose between a rotary brush setup and a traditional rod system for a tricky flue last month

I went with the rotary brush on a tight S-bend job near downtown Nashville and it cleared the creosote way faster but I'm worried I might have missed some spots the rods would have caught, anyone else run into this trade off?

Wait, you actually used a rotary brush on an S-bend? That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I've seen those things torque so hard they snap cables on straight runs. On a tight S-bend your chain must have been screaming. I'd be more worried about the brush head getting stuck than missing spots. Those rotary brushes work best on big straight commercial flues. For residential S-bends I still trust rods. You feel every crack and ledge. Miss nothing that way.

Oh man I actually read a forum post where a guy tested both on the same flue and the rotary brush missed a spot the rods caught! Something about how the rods can pivot and scrape at weird angles the brush cant reach. But honestly I think it depends on the flue shape more than anything.
