Had to decide between a $350 camera probe and a new set of rods for a tricky multi-flue job in an old farmhouse last Tuesday.
I went with the rods, thinking I could feel my way through, but I missed a major crack in the middle flue liner that the camera would have caught instantly, so what's your go-to tool when the budget forces a tough call?

Always buy the tool that shows you the problem you can't feel.

My old boss taught me that lesson with a thermal camera. It found a leak behind a wall that was costing my client a fortune. Now I won't start a job without one.

The tool that shows you the problem you can't feel" - that's a good way to put it. But how do you know when you're buying a tool that actually shows you something real versus one that just makes you feel like you're being thorough?
