I swore power sweeping was for lazy guys until a nasty storm week in Dayton changed my mind
For 9 years I turned my nose up at power sweeping. I figured a real sweep uses rods and a brush, and anyone dragging a vacuum hose up a roof was cutting corners. Then came the second week of March in Dayton. We had 14 jobs backed up and every single one had glazed creosote from folks burning wet wood all winter. I spent 4 hours on one flue with my rotary whip and barely made a dent, and the homeowner was standing there watching me the whole time. My buddy loaned me his power sweeping setup for the next 3 calls and I finished all of them before lunch without breaking a sweat. The camera showed cleaner walls than my hand work on the job before. Now I keep the rods in the truck for tight liners and old masonry, but the vacuum rig runs on anything stage 3 or worse. Any of you old school guys made the switch, or am I late to a party that started 10 years ago?
