I tried that new telescoping rod kit and it nearly cost me a roof job

Bought one of those extendable rod systems from the hardware store downtown last month to save time on a narrow flue. First use on a 3-story Victorian, the locking collar gave way halfway through and the brush head dropped 20 feet, barely missing a slate tile. The old screw-together sections might be slower but they don't suddenly come apart under pressure. Anyone else had a tool fail on a job leaving you scrambling?

That's the thing with newer gear sometimes, they rush designs to market without enough testing. Makes you wonder if everything these days is built to a price point instead of lasting.
