Just read that a third of all home heating fires involve chimneys

Found that stat in a fire marshal's report from last year. Makes you think about how many calls we get that could've been avoided, right?

That's a pretty sobering number. A lot of those fires probably come from simple neglect, like not cleaning the flue. Regular maintenance seems like a no-brainer when you see the stats.

Yeah, @umac71 is totally right about the neglect part. It's wild how many people just forget about the chimney until they smell smoke. A cheap yearly sweep is way cheaper than a new house, you know?

Insurance probably doesn't cover that kind of damage either without proof of maintenance.
