My old fiberglass extension rods snapped clean through on a job in Burlington last Thursday.

I was working on a tall, narrow flue in an old farmhouse. I had just fed the third section up when I heard a sharp crack. Both rods broke about a foot from the coupling, and the brush dropped down the chimney. I had to use my backup rods and a camera to fish it out, which added over an hour to the job. Has anyone else had this happen with fiberglass, and do you think carbon fiber is worth the extra cost?

That "sharp crack" sound is the worst.

I used to love that sound when I was a kid, like it meant something exciting was happening. Then my dog got scared by a firework last Fourth of July and hid under the bed shaking for an hour. Now every time I hear that sharp crack I just picture her scared face. It completely flipped how I feel about it. The sound just means pure fear to an animal that doesn't understand. I can't hear it the same way anymore.
