Rant: I saw a massive difference in creosote buildup after switching from green to seasoned wood
A client in Springfield had me clean their flue every six weeks because of heavy, glazed creosote. They were burning green wood from their property. I convinced them to buy a cord of properly seasoned oak and wait three months. The next cleaning was a breeze, with maybe a quarter of the usual buildup. It was all dry, flaky soot. How many of you have clients who just won't listen about wood quality?

That "wait three months" part is the real kicker. People hear "seasoned wood" and think the pile behind the shed from last summer counts. They don't get that truly dry wood needs like, two summers of proper stacking with airflow. It's not just about being cut, it's about being cured. You got lucky they listened at all.

Learned that the hard way last winter.

Disagree on needing two full summers. Got a moisture meter last year and my split oak was under 20% after one dry season stacked off the ground with a cover. It depends on your local climate and how you stack it. The three month rule is too short, but two years is overkill for most properly handled wood.
