Rant: My 20-foot extension ladder slipped on wet grass this morning and I had to hold on to the gutter for five minutes before I could get down.

It happened because I was rushing to beat the rain and didn't set the feet on my plywood boards, so now I'm looking for a better system for wet yards, maybe those ladder stabilizer spikes?

Ever think about just using a second person to hold the base?

Totally agree with @quinn_nelson. I tried to set up that exact shelf alone last week and it was a disaster. Had to call my roommate in to just stand on the damn thing while I screwed it together. Felt like a real idiot for not just asking for help right away. Some things are clearly meant for two people no matter what the instructions say. Saved me from having a pile of bent metal and a broken wall.

I used to be that guy who insisted on building every piece of flat-pack furniture solo. Last year I put together a whole desk from that big Swedish store by myself, took three hours and a lot of swearing. After reading your post, I'm starting to see how dumb that pride really is. Next time I'm definitely asking for a hand.
