Switched from stiff brushes to poly whip rods and it saved my back

I used to swear by the stiff polypropylene rods for everything, even with a lot of creosote buildup. Then I had a job last month on a massive oil furnace flue out in Elmwood that was just killer on my shoulders and wrists. After three houses in one day I could barely lift my arms. A buddy of mine brought his poly whip rods over for a demo and I was shocked how much easier they went through the heavy stuff. The flex actually helps bust through the crust without fighting you the whole time. I still keep the stiff rods for straight vertical flues but for anything with offset bends I'm sold on the whips now. Anyone else make the switch and notice a difference in fatigue?

Man I felt that one in my own shoulders just reading it. Poly whips were a game changer for me too after a rough winter where I was fighting every single offset with the stiff rods. The way they flex through those tight turns really does cut down on the jarring that goes straight to your elbows and wrists. I still keep both sets around because there's times you need that stiff rod for straight stacks, but for anything with bends I grab the whips every time now. Good on your buddy for showing you that demo, sometimes you just need to feel the difference to believe it.

You know what @mason_flores21, I was actually the opposite for a while. Used to think poly whips were just a gimmick until I got handed one on a demo and it totally changed my mind (felt ridiculous about being stubborn). Now I keep both sets in the truck too, definitely grab the whips for anything with a bend in it.
