That one customer who watched me for 2 hours straight

Back around 2005 I had this job up in Portland where the homeowner pulled up a chair right in the living room and watched me clean her chimney. She didn't say a word for the first hour, just sat there. Then out of nowhere she goes "my husband always did this himself, but he passed last spring." I didn't know what to say so I just kept working and told her I'd make sure it was done right. She tipped me $40 and asked me to come back every year. Still think about that sometimes. Anyone else ever have a customer watch them the whole time?

I mean, the part where she just sat there for a full hour without saying anything would've had me so nervous I'd probably drop a brush down the chimney or something. That silent watch is like a horror movie for delivery drivers too, I swear. One time I had this lady follow me from her front door to her mailbox and back just staring while I handed her a package. $40 tip though? That's basically the holy grail of awkward customer encounters, I'd take that over silent judgment any day.
