That time a hidden blockage proved my old methods wrong
When I first started, I relied on feel and sound to judge a clean chimney. It worked for a while, or so I thought. Then I met a chimney with a partial collapse that my ears missed completely. Now I always use a camera before and after, no exceptions. The peace of mind is WORTH the extra time.

I see your point, but I've found that a good knock and listen tells me a lot! Cameras are great, but they add time and cost that isn't always needed. Sometimes the old ways just work.

Honestly @the_seth, what about the person on the other side of the door? A surprise knock can really startle someone or make them feel pressured to answer. A camera lets them see it's just a delivery or a worker first. That old way can actually add stress you don't see from your side of things.

Man my buddy learned this the hard way with his home security. He used to just knock for package deliveries, totally fine right? Then one day he spooked his elderly neighbor so bad she almost called the cops. After that he got a doorbell cam, and like @sage212 said, it lets people see who it is and decide. That extra step isn't a waste, it's just being considerate. Sometimes you don't know what's going on inside someone's house, or their head.
