Tried a spotter mirror on my last 30-footer and it actually worked
Bought one of those extendable mirrors with a light for $40 to check a tricky damper on a 30-foot chimney last week, figured it'd be a gimmick. Could see the whole flue from the bottom without hauling my ladder up top. Has anyone else found a use for these things beyond just inspection?

Used mine last month to check a hairline crack in a clay flue liner near the top of a 28 footer. Caught it from the cleanout door with that mirror before I even set foot on the roof. Saved me a trip up and down with the ladder on a wet morning. Just be careful with the light angle - pointed it wrong at first and the glare made everything look fine when it wasn't.

Good tip on the light angle. That glare will fool you every time.
