Was cleaning a flue in an old house in Burlington and found a 1923 newspaper stuffed up there, perfectly dry.

Yeah, no kidding. I pulled a section of old wallpaper out of a chimney once and it was like it went in yesterday, not a single bit of moisture. That draft just keeps everything bone dry up there. Makes you wonder what else is hiding in these old places, just waiting to be found. What was in the newspaper, anything cool?

That wallpaper story from @jessejohnson is wild. Perfectly dry in a chimney flue? I found a 1938 grocery list tucked behind a baseboard once, and the paper was so brittle it turned to dust when I touched it. My attic had a stack of newspapers from the 50s that were basically glued together with damp. Makes me think his chimney must have been sealed up tight with zero humidity. Old houses are full of surprises, but that level of preservation is just lucky.

Perfectly dry" in a flue seems unlikely.
