Got screamed at by a QC guy in Detroit over my edge finish

I was running a Mazak at a shop in Detroit last month, trying to get this aluminum part done for an automotive order. QC guy named Tony came over and yelled at me for 5 minutes about a .005 inch burr on the back edge - said I was wasting everyone's time. Now I check every single part with a file before I pull it off the machine, even if it adds 20 seconds per cycle. Anyone else have a QC guy that just loses it over small stuff?

Gotta say though, Tony might have a point you're missing... not about yelling, that's just how Detroit QC guys are sometimes. But if he's screaming over a .005 burr, maybe there's been problems before with parts getting rejected further down the line. I've seen shops where a tiny burr gets missed and then it wrecks an assembly robot or jams up a customer's process, and suddenly it's a whole big thing. Your extra 20 seconds might be saving you from a way bigger headache later, like having to redo a hundred parts or getting the whole batch sent back. Check with the other machinists too, maybe Tony's actually doing you a favor by being loud about it, just in a really annoying way.

The burr wrecking an assembly robot point is something I never really thought about before, but that changes how I see the whole situation. You're right, 20 seconds of deburring beats a whole batch getting sent back any day.
