Had a weird chatter issue on a 4140 part three days ago
I was running a finish pass on a 4140 steel part and got this bad chatter I couldn't shake. I slowed the feed down by 20 percent and it went away clean. What's your go-to fix for chatter on harder materials?

Actually, slowing feed usually makes chatter worse.

So what's the actual fix then, if slowing down is wrong?

Wait, "makes chatter worse" feels like a pretty strong take, @angelas78. I've seen it go both ways depending on the setup. Is it really that bad every single time? Sometimes a slower feed is the only thing that saves a cut when things get shaky. It might not be a universal fix, but calling it worse seems off.
