I just found out my whole coolant mix ratio has been off for years
I've been running a 10% mix on my Haas VF-2 for ages, thinking that was the standard. A guy from the shop down in Tacoma came by last week to borrow a tool, saw my setup, and asked why my sump looked so thin. He showed me his log book, and he's been running a solid 8% for all his aluminum work. I checked my manual, and sure enough, for general machining, 8% is the sweet spot. Has anyone else had a coolant 'aha' moment like that?

Man, I was the opposite. Ran my old Fadal at like 12% for years because I thought more coolant meant better tool life and finish. My shop smelled like a chemical plant and I was going through concentrate like crazy. Watched a video from a guy doing high-speed aluminum and he was talking about how a leaner mix actually lubricates better for certain ops. Tried dropping to 8% and my finish improved overnight, plus my skin stopped feeling so dry and cracked all the time. Total game changer.

Ran mine at 15% for a year thinking I was being smart. My hands looked like I'd been digging in salt and the floor was always slick. Finally read the bottle and felt like a total genius.
