Pushed past 500 parts without a single reject today
Been running my Haas VF-2 for about 3 years now and today I hit 503 parts on a medical bracket order with zero rejects. That surprised me because my usual run of these brackets I'd lose 2 or 3 to chatter marks or off tolerances. I swapped out to a new brand of coolant last month and adjusted my feed rate down by 10 percent. The finish came out way cleaner and I didn't have any tool deflection issues. Has anyone else found that a small tweak like that made a big difference in reject rates?

You read that article in Modern Machine Shop about coolant chemistry too? I swear it's half the battle most guys don't think about.

I swapped out to a new brand of coolant definitely caught my eye. I had a similar thing happen on a stainless job where I dropped my feed by 8 percent and changed to a synthetic coolant. My reject rate went from around 5 percent down to basically nothing on that run. It was wild how much of a difference that small adjustment made for tool life and surface finish. Sometimes you just gotta mess with the basics before you start blaming the machine.
