Swapped my carbide insert for a cheap HSS tool on a whim and it actually worked better
I was running some aluminum parts last week and my insert started chattering real bad. I grabbed this old HSS end mill I got at a garage sale for $3 just to see if it would finish the job. It cut through that 6061 like butter with no vibration at all. Now I'm wondering if I've been overthinking tooling for softer materials this whole time. Anyone else found a random cheap tool that outperformed your expensive stuff?

Every machine has its quirks, and sometimes a flexy HSS tool just handles vibration better than a rigid carbide one.
