That old timer at my last shop swore by 0.002 offset on every finish pass no matter what
He said it saved his tools over time but I thought he was nuts until I tried it on a tough stainless job last month and my inserts lasted twice as long, has anyone else got a weird rule from a veteran that actually held up?

That line about his inserts lasting twice as long really hit home for me. I had a similar experience where I thought an old timer was just being stubborn, but after giving his method a fair shot on some 316 stainless I saw a huge difference in tool life. It's funny how those little tricks that sound crazy at first end up being the ones that save you money in the long run.

Wait, you actually got double the tool life on 316 stainless from some old guy's trick? That's wild, I figured that stuff was just survivorship bias.
