TIL about tool offset wear compensation the hard way
Was running a batch of 50 parts last week and noticed the last 10 were coming in 0.003 undersized. Turns out I had no idea my machine had a built-in wear offset table that updates automatically. Found it buried in the control manual page 47. Feel like an idiot for manually tweaking offsets for 2 years. Anyone else miss obvious features in their control software?

Page 47 is a REAL stretch buddy. Ive been running Haas machines for 6 years now and I STILL dont use that auto wear table. Manual offset tweaking is FINE. You know exactly what youre doing every single time when you do it by hand. That auto table can screw you over if the tool starts wearing uneven or if theres a temperature change in the shop. Ive seen guys trust that feature and end up scrapping 15 parts because the compensation went wild on them. You had a SYSTEM that worked for 2 years why mess with it now? Sometimes the old way is the RELIABLE way even if it takes a couple extra seconds.
