TIL my tool offset was the problem, not the spindle speed

Ran a job in Youngstown last month, 200 parts scrapped before I noticed the tool wear page had a bad number from a setup two weeks prior. I always blamed feeds and speeds, but the real tell was the finish looking different on the same program, part after part. Anyone else had a dumb simple setting cause a whole batch to blow up on them?

You're giving the tool offset too much credit here. The machine read what was in the page, it did what you told it. That number didn't just appear out of thin air, someone typed it or a probe fed it in. Blaming a worn offset is like blaming the gas pedal when you crash the car. The real problem is you didn't catch it in setup, the first part, or the first hundred parts after that. Spindle speed still matters a ton for finish, you just had two problems at once and picked the easier one to fix.
