Tool presetters drift more than you think, check yours
Ran the same Haimer presetter against my old set of test bars after two months of heavy use. The Z axis readout shifted 0.0014 inches, enough to scrap a batch of 20 parts on the Haas. I always trusted it blindly until the inspection report showed the deviation. Anyone else do regular checks on their presetter or just rely on initial calibration?

Man, I feel your pain on this one. I caught my presetter reading almost a grand off on the X axis after a crash I thought was minor. Cost me a good chunk of change on a titanium job before I realized it. Now I run a quick check with a known bar every Monday morning before any real work starts. It only takes five minutes but it's saved my ass more than once since.
