Vent: The time a customer told me to "just eyeball" the tolerances
I was running a batch of aluminum brackets on a Tuesday for a local guy in Phoenix. He came over and said "you're overthinking it, just eyeball the tolerances, it's not rocket science." I was SO close to just going with it, but I remembered my dad's rule about never trusting a verbal spec. I stopped the machine, made him write down the actual numbers, and sure enough he wanted +/- 0.005" which I wouldn't have hit by looking at it. Has anyone else had a customer try to brush off proper measurements like that?

Saw a guy try that once with a job that needed +/- 0.002". He ended up scrapping half the batch and had to reorder material. I mean, it's not worth the headache. Always get it in writing, even for a simple bracket job.
