My cousin swore I'd never finish a real project without using Git from day one
I ignored him for 3 months and lost 2 full days of work when my laptop crashed and I had no backup, has anyone else learned version control the hard way?

Oh man, that's rough. My buddy told me the same thing and I thought I knew better. Lost a whole week of code once when my external hard drive just stopped working, no warning. Had to redo a bunch of stuff from scratch and it was miserable. Git is annoying to learn at first but it's saved me so many times since.
