Spent 3 hours last Tuesday chasing a missing semicolon in my first JavaScript project
Wrote a little tip calculator to practice functions. Ran it and it just did nothing. No error, no nothing. I sat there for 3 hours reading my code over and over, googling stuff about scope and closures that I did not even need yet.
Then I found it. One line that was missing a semicolon right above a return statement, so the return got glued to the next line and the function never gave back a number. Added one tiny character and it worked perfect.
I felt so dumb but also kind of proud? Like the code was right the whole time, I just could not see it. Now I read out loud line by line when stuff breaks and that actually helps.
How do you all hunt down bugs that don't throw any errors? Any tricks besides staring at the screen till your eyes hurt?
