Spent a whole weekend trying to pick between Python and JavaScript

I got this book, 'Automate the Boring Stuff with Python', and a friend told me to just learn JavaScript for web stuff. I had to pick one to start with. I went with Python because the book made it seem simple, like writing plain English. It was fine for a bit, making little scripts. But then I tried to make a basic website button do something, and I hit a wall. I realized I had no idea how to connect my Python code to a browser. My friend just said 'I told you so.' Now I feel like I wasted three days and have to start over. Has anyone else picked a first language and then felt stuck when they tried to make something real?

Oh man, I used to think you could learn both too, but sandragonzalez is totally right. You just end up confused and nothing really sticks.

Why not learn both at once?

Have you ever tried to do that for real? Trying to split your focus between two totally new things means you don't get good at either one. It just leads to a huge mess of half learned ideas. You end up with a shaky foundation in both subjects instead of a solid start in one. That's a fast track to getting frustrated and giving up. Why set yourself up to fail from the jump?
