The senior dev who laughed at my while loop in front of everyone

Two months ago during a code review, this guy with 15 years of experience literally said 'a real developer would use a hash map' after I spent 3 hours getting my loop to work. Has anyone else had a senior make them feel like trash for just trying to learn?

That thing about "a real developer would use a hash map" is such garbage. Real developers use whatever solves the problem without breaking stuff. A while loop that works is way better than a fancy hash map that you barely understand and have to look up every time. The senior probably forgot what it was like to be learning. Don't let that comment stick with you. You spent 3 hours figuring out your loop, that means you actually learned something, and that's worth more than a snappy one-liner from someone who's been doing this too long.
