Watched my nephew go from copy-pasting Stack Overflow answers to writing his own loop in 3 months
My nephew started learning Python back in March and I sat with him for an hour every Sunday to help. At first he would literally copy code from Stack Overflow and just change variable names, he had no idea what a for loop did. Last Sunday he showed me a little program he wrote by himself that reads a CSV file of his baseball stats and prints his batting average per month. The big change was when I made him retype every example from scratch instead of copy-paste, that one rule did more than any tutorial. What finally made loops click for you when you were starting out?
Man, retyping from scratch is huge, I did the same thing with my cousin and it worked way better than any tutorial. For me loops finally clicked when I stopped reading them and just traced through each step on paper like a computer would.
