Cold brew concentrate ratio, I finally got it right after 8 batches
Cold brew concentrate ratio, I finally got it right after 8 batches. Last month I kept making cold brew that tasted like bitter dirt. I was doing 1:8 coffee to water and steeping for 18 hours on the counter. Tried 1:5 with a 12 hour steep in the fridge instead, and it came out smooth and sweet, no acid bite at all. The grind size was the real fix though, coarse like sea salt, not the pre-ground stuff I was using. Anyone else have a steep time they swear by, or am I overthinking this?

Man, I feel this in my bones. My first batch tasted like something you'd scrub a deck with, so your bitter dirt description hit way too close to home. Landed on 1:6 with a 14 hour steep in the fridge and it's been my sweet spot ever since, though I still mess it up about half the time. The coarse grind thing is no joke, I was using pre-ground for way too long thinking it didn't matter. At this point I'm just happy when it doesn't taste like regret in a cup...
