My brother told me to stop rinsing my filter papers and he was DEAD wrong

My older brother came over last week and saw me rinsing my V60 filter before brewing. He said I was wasting water and it didn't do anything. I tried it his way for 3 days straight and got that papery taste in every single cup. Rinsing with hot water takes 10 seconds and makes a MASSIVE difference. Has anyone else had someone convince them to skip a step and regret it?

Ngl, I skip rinsing and my coffee tastes fine.

Oh, I'm right there with you, @angela_carter. I stopped rinsing years ago and honestly, my coffee tastes just as good as ever. Between getting the kids out the door and my own morning fog, that extra step felt like a waste of time. I figure the hot water hitting the grounds does enough, and I've never noticed a difference. Sometimes I wonder if people just repeat what they've heard without trying it for themselves.
