Pro tip: the coffee at Denny's in Albuquerque tasted like burnt rubber last Tuesday

I stopped there on a road trip and the drip machine clearly wasn't descaled, the mineral buildup gave it that nasty scorched flavor. Has anyone else hit a random diner's coffee that tasted like it was brewed through a rusted pipe, or is it just me?

I read somewhere that diner coffee gets that burnt taste when they leave the pot on the burner too long, not just the machine buildup. That Albuquerque spot probably had both going on, which is a double whammy.
