Debate: Did switching from dark to medium roast change your coffee game or is it overrated?

I swear I noticed a difference after about two weeks when I swapped from my usual dark roast to a medium roast from that little roastery down on Main Street. The dark roast always tasted a bit burnt to me, like they were hiding something, but the medium brought out actual flavors I never knew were there. But my buddy Mike insists it's all in my head and that dark roast is still king for that bold kick. He says medium is just weak and watery, but I found it smoother and less bitter. What do you all think? Did you see a real before-and-after when you made the switch, or is it just hype?
