Found a very specific coffee ritual from a barista in Seattle last week
He insisted on pre-warming every cup with hot water for exactly 30 seconds before pouring, saying it kept the espresso from dying in the first sip, and now I'm wondering if that's common knowledge or just his thing.

My buddy Mark who works at a shop in Portland tried this once after reading about it online. He spent a whole morning timing himself with a stopwatch warming each cup and the regulars started calling him "the preacher" because he looked like he was blessing the mugs.
