French press vs pour over: I finally settled it after 3 years of making coffee both ways.

I always thought a French press was the only way to get real flavor out of beans. Then I tried a simple Hario V60 at a shop in Portland last month. The pour over had way less sludge and the brightness of the coffee was night and day. Has anyone else switched camps after sticking with one method for years?

Real flavor" sure, if you enjoy chewing your coffee grounds. I guess I'll have to apologize to all my fancy coffee friends and admit they were right about the sludge thing.

Lmao the "chewing your coffee grounds" part got me. I've definitely been there with a French press that sat too long before plunging. But here's the thing, that sludge is where all the good stuff lives if you treat it right. AeroPress with a metal filter lets through just enough of that fine sediment to give it body without making you feel like you're eating dirt. My buddy swears by his cloth filter setup, says it's the perfect middle ground. Different strokes for different folks I guess, some people really do want their coffee to look like tea.
