I always thought my local roaster was overpriced until I tried their single origin
I was at The Daily Grind in Austin last week and finally bought a bag of their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, which is $24 for 12 ounces. My cheap grinder choked on the beans and made a huge mess of static and grounds all over the counter. I cleaned it up, used a spoon to weigh the dose, and the resulting cup was so bright and fruity it completely changed my mind about what their price gets you. Has anyone else had a gear fail right when you were trying something new?

Ever think a messy grinder actually helps aerate the grounds for a better bloom?

That's a fun idea, but the mess is just loose grounds getting everywhere. A good bloom comes from fresh coffee and a proper pour, not the grinder being dirty. You actually want the grounds to go straight from the grinder into your brewer to keep them fresh. A clean machine makes way more of a difference for taste than any hoped for aeration from a mess.
