I finally visited that bougie coffee shop downtown and the barista handed me a $9 cup of black drip coffee

My wife dragged me to this new third wave spot called 'The Daily Grind' in Portland last Saturday. I figured for that price it would be some fancy latte with art or at least a pour over. Nope. Just regular black coffee in a paper cup. I asked if they at least roasted the beans in house and she just pointed at a sign that said 'single origin from Ethiopia.' I took one sip and honestly it tasted like burnt toast. Has anyone else paid way too much for something simple at a trendy cafe?

Went to a place in Seattle, paid $8 for what tasted like hot dirt water.

Did you let them know or just tough it out? Next time ask for a refund, most places will give it if you tell em straight up it tastes like garbage.
