My burr grinder's adjustment ring completely seized up mid-grind yesterday morning, and I had to use a whole can of penetrating oil over 3 hours to get it moving again.
I'm debating whether this is a sign to finally upgrade to a more expensive model or just a fluke that means I should keep maintaining my current one, so what's your take on when a repair turns into a replacement?

That's not really penetrating oil's job, it's for loosening rust. If your grinder needed that much, the real problem is probably old coffee oils and fines gumming up the works. A full teardown and clean with proper grinder cleaner might fix it for good.

So what's the actual best way to clean those old coffee oils? Just regular soap and water on the burrs, or is there a specific cleaner you've found that works?
